Consignment Sales Program

East City Bookshop strives to support local and independent authors. If your works are self-published, vanity published, unavailable through standard distribution channels, or out of print, you may be eligible for our consignment program. Consignment partners provide their own books for sale at the store, on a revenue-sharing basis.

Please note that all materials are subject to the review and approval of the East City Bookshop staff before we can stock your book on a consignment basis. We look for production quality, good editing, and a market-standard price point, as well as whether the content is a good fit for our audience.

We will review and respond to consignment submissions on a quarterly basis in March, June, and September. We regret that we are not able to accept any consignment applications during the holiday season (November 1 to January 15).

To be considered for our consignment program, please mail a completed consignment application with one shelf-ready copy of the book for consideration to:

East City Bookshop
ATTN: Consignment Program

Washington, DC 20003

If you’d like your review copy to be returned after your application has been processed, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE) large enough, and with enough postage attached, for us to mail your book back to you.

Due to the large volume of consignment applications we receive, we cannot return review copies if the postage on the enclosed SASE is insufficient, or the envelope is too small. We cannot return books if there is no enclosed SASE. If you prefer to pick up your book from the store in person, let us know and we will hold it for no longer than two weeks after notifying you of your application status, after which time we will donate it to a Little Free Library.

We also advise applying authors not to send multiple copies of their books when making their initial application.

If your application is accepted, we will notify you of how many copies of your books we’d like to carry. We cannot provide storage or shelf space for extra copies beyond the quantity we agree to carry at any given time. If we’re running low, we’ll let you know it’s time to send more.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
