Does your child or student love books and reading? We’d love for them to write a review! Like our Staff Picks, Kid Picks highlight and bring attention to a book we want others to read. These are brief reviews--just a few sentences--that let kids share their favorite books with our customers.
Your child can fill out a special “Kid Pick” form that we’ll place on the shelf with the book. Ask for one at the front desk the next time you're in the store!

This is a clever puzzle of a story. It’s written for middle schoolers, but mystery lovers of any age will enjoy this quick read. Raskin crafts an engaging but light-hearted mystery that readers can try to figure out as the story progresses. Winner of the 1978 Newberry Medal!

Miyoung, an 18-year-old gumiho, a mythical nine-tailed fox that relies on taking human energy to survive, loses her gumiho bead when saving a human boy, Jihoon. With only 100 days left to live, she begins to fall in love with Jihoon with disastrous consequences. If you love k-dramas, angst, and mythology, you will love this book! One of the best Asian fantasies I've read.

I LOVED this book. It is about a witch who ran away from her coven to become a thief because her mom (the leader of the coven) wanted to sacrifice her. She is caught and is made to marry a witch hunter to save face. They fall in love but he does not know that she is a witch. I love the romance and the old married couple feel the two of them have from the beginning. I found the plot to be equal parts funny and tense.

Arrah wants nothing more than to be able to wield magic like her powerful family, but when children begin to be kidnapped, she realizes there's a more sinister plot behind the scenes. In order to stop the forces brewing, Arrah must be ready to sacrifice what she knows and loves while battling her past. Kingdom of Souls balances the right amount of character and plot-driven story, with dynamic familiar relationships, high stakes, and a vibrant West African-inspired fantasy setting.
